Liz Picks - April 4, 2019

One thing I want to do on the blog is share all the random things I find interesting or beautiful or crazy or inspiring. To that end, each Thursday I’ll be posting a regular series tentatively titled “Liz Picks” in which I’ll highlight news stories, home inspo, pretty clothes, travel tips, cool products, celebrity gossip stories I’m following (🕵🏻♀️), etc. Really just anything I’m into lately.
Side note: if anyone out there reading this has a better name for this series pop into their head, please send it my way. I’m the worst when it comes to coming up with clever names and, to be honest, “Liz Picks” is pretty boring as far as series titles go. 😅
That being said…. here are a few things that tickled my fancy this week.
CELEBRITY NEWS: For those who don’t know, I’m a reality TV junkie. Love it. Can’t live without it. I will not apologize. Accordingly, I’ve watched Keeping Up With The Kardashians since Season 1, and honestly, I hope it stays on the air long enough for me to see Kim become a grandma. 😅ANYWAY… if you don’t follow any of the family on Instagram, then you may have missed the videos of Kanye West’s Sunday Service (it was recently announced he’ll be taking his choir to Coachella on Easter Weekend). Kanye is obviously a polarizing figure (I love him and his music, for the record 🙋🏻), but if you’ve avoided watching these videos just because you aren’t a fan of his then you’re seriously missing out on some INCREDIBLE gospel music. I promise, even you Kanye haters will love it. Even The BBC agrees! You can watch some video clips here.
ENTERTAINING: Is this not the most dreamy tablescape? 🤩 I’ll admit I don’t usually lean towards earthy or natural aesthetics when I’m creating my own tablescapes (that look just doesn’t come natural to me for some reason!), but this set up totally inspires me to use a more simple approach at my next dinner party. Which might be a while given that Baby White is almost here - ha! But still, if there’s anything I’ve learned from Ina Garten, it’s that guests have a better time in your home when you keep things casual and easy, and I think tablescapes like this one help create that vibe. I haven’t bought Jenni’s book yet, but it’s saved in my Amazon cart for future purchase.
HOME INSPO: And, speaking of Jenni Kayne, check out her home spread in Architectural Digest. STUN-NING. 👏🏻 I’m especially loving her front entry (the reclaimed wood mixed with the modern glass is everything to me), the master bath (those windows! the marbled wall!), and the outdoor area (so private and chic + I’m very into olive trees right now).
TRAVEL: Sign me up for a stay at this mountain escape in Tennessee! 🙋🏻 Anyone wanna come with?! It looks SO cozy. The hotel is Blackberry Mountain, and you can see more pictures of the property here.
SKINCARE: My entire life I’ve struggled with skin problems. I’ve dealt with it all - acne (especially the cystic variety), clogged pores, redness, keratosis pilaris, back acne, you name it. It’s for sure my biggest beauty struggle and insecurity. Lately though, I finally feel like my acne is mostly under control (fingers crossed it hasn’t just improved because of pregnancy 🤞🏻). BUT, now that acne is further down my list of most pressing problems, dealing with redness has moved to the top. I’m just one of those unfortunate people who flushes easily and deals with a lot of general facial redness (real life example: I always have to be super careful getting dressed for big events, because if I scratch myself putting on a dress or jewelry, that red line won’t go away for HOURS, and sometimes not until the next morning 🙄). If you struggle with redness, be sure to check out this article from Who What Wear. It reviews a bunch of anti-redness products, and some of them look very promising. I’ve flagged a few to purchase and try once I’m no longer pregnant and don’t have to be concerned about product ingredients.
SOCIAL MEDIA: Heads up! Instagram just released a new feature where if you take a screenshot of a disappearing story sent to you in a direct message, it may notify the user who sent it to you. There are some tricks to avoid this feature if you want to be sneaky though! 😈 Read more about this new rollout and how to avoid tripping it off in this article.
FASHION NEWS: Rent The Runway and Glossier have officially reached “unicorn” status! Aka they’re both worth more than $1 billion. I’ve been a fan of Rent The Runway from the beginning and used them all the time back in the day. While it had been a few years since I rented anything, a few months ago I signed up for their Unlimited Program to use during my pregnancy and have loved it! Highly recommend looking into this option if you’re pregnant and hate the idea of buying meh maternity clothes you’ll only be wearing for a few months. Anyway, congrats to them! Love seeing women out there killing it! 👊🏻
That’s it for this week! I hope you found this interesting! Until next Thursday…
